I am looking for a casting resin ( preferably urethane) that feels and looks like wood, can take stain and other finish readily, non-brittle or slightly flexible, and can demold in about 20 minutes. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

There are many formulas, most developed by trial and error and unlikely to be shared. Most of these will be based on polyester resin. I just got a catalog from Industrial Polymers www.industrialpolymers.com and they list a urethane casting resin called 'Polywood' which would meet your needs. They seem to be an excellent company and their catalog gives some of the best advice I have seen for handling these materials.

ps; cast squids and an octupus in the catalog too.

Thanks for your help, Gary. I will contact IPI to request for a cured sample.

As I recall, the usual answer is 'pecan flour' (literally: ground up pecan hulls) mixed liberally into your resin. Not, mind you, that I know anything more about it, but there's two more keywords to prime your search.
