The Story of creation

Description: I found this piece of wood at Ohope beach EBoP. It had been half buried in sand after a major storm and the sea was washing over it, as I dug it out I saw its form which was very inspirational. Alot of thoughts came to mind of this amazing woods journey, where it had come from, what kind of wood was it, and the shape that was left behind. I thought about creation, about the upgiving or offering up or of sacrifice. I thought of the Maori story of creation, of Papatuanuku, of Ranginui and of Tane. Papatuanuku, is the body of the sculpture, she is holding up the Koru to Ranginui, and Tane is the divide that seperates them both. So i set to work to encapsulate the visual behind the story with this timber. This piece has fantastic lines and flow, the grain in the timber twists and bends and the entire piece tells its own story from every angle veiwed.
