Liz Magor Opens in the Henry Gallery in Seattle next week, and if you are from that area you can attend a lecture on Friday, the 12 of September at the Henry Gallery.

From the Henry’s Site

Throughout her distinguished career, Vancouver, BC-based sculptor Liz Magor has explored the relationship of the real to the simulated in provocative ways. This exhibition will focus on a group of recent works that suggest a collision of domesticity with our wilder instincts. A series of cast sculptures resembling food trays, candy, discarded clothing, and other detritus sit atop tables and appear to be left over from a bout of compulsive consumption. Inserted amidst the debris are the exhausted bodies of small animals, which speak to a different order of waste. The collection of humble yet talismanic forms mourns nature and culture alike and creates an elegiac mood.

I am not very familiar with her work but find myself drawn to it.

The name of this show is interesting in itself - The Mouth and other storage facilities moving the mouth from its function as our eating and speaking organ to a place where we put things.

In our current obese society that is definitely and interesting point to ponder.
