I was thinking about switching to square armature wire. I currently use the standard round aluminum armature wire that is commonly available. Does anybody out there know of a supplier of square aluminum armature wire?

[I've never seen any, and I bet it would be expensive if you could find it. If you really want it, use a jeweler's rolling mill to square it between two angled rollers. You can but the mill for a couple of hundred bucks,. or show up at your local jeweler's with a roll of wire and a six-pack...]

he never asked for analasys ... he just asked for square wire :-P
personally I prefer square as it the clay grips better .. no twisting on the armature .. the more that gets the clay to stay on the armature the better .. can't have enough key

hi Gary
yes it is a lot simpler to buy it square and a lot nicer for armature on most occasions I still use Galv. wire wrapped around, chicken mesh and butterflies... but every little bit helps..... nothing worse than coming back to a piece of work and finding the clay has moved and cracked over night .....or worse still part of your sculpture is on the floor ..... (happened once to me :'-( ... ) ...... you can never have too good an armature. Square is available ......... just not sure where in CA ..... I know where I buy mine in England ...... have you tried looking up metal suppliers and phoning around?

I remember seeing square, twisted alum. wire. The first thing would be to ask Sculpture House, no? In speaker repair, edgewound flat (rectangular) copper or alum. wire is the premium choice.

I haven't used it for a while, but my local welding supply store carries Aluminum welding wire for TIG and it's available in a square shape.
It's only 3' long, but it's an option.
