Anybody want to share with this group the -other- news groups they check on regularly?

I'll start: Although I have quite a few listed as subscribed to, it turns out I only check out this group and alt.surfing.bodyboard and alt.surfing.longboard on a daily basis. Hmm? Guess if I'm not in the studio I'd rather be in the water.

[I don't follow these other groups as closely, but I do check on them once in a while:

I admire your tenacity for hanging out on that newsgroup Andrew. Whew, I lasted way longer than I should have but had to finally give up. What a bunch of browbeaters in that group. I'm sure the other groups you visit exhibit more sanity.

One group I read regularly that might interest other sculptors is alt.crafts.professional. The focus is on the business aspects of art, and many of the topics apply equally well to selling sculpture. I also read rec.crafts.metalworking and alt.crafts.blacksmithing re. ironwork, and rec.woodworking mostly for info on finishing. A lot of the finishing info applies to finishing ironwork. There are lot of computer newsgroups I skim pretty regularly too, because I'm learning a lot about both hardware and software.

Yeah, I agree. That's one of the reasons I treasure alt.sculpture. There are really not that many arts n.g.'s of quality out there, at least where I can find them.

It is a pity that good discussion on art is so diificult to maintain. I enjoyed r.a.f. a year ago. Are we partly guilty to the decay. If all nice people leave, what is left?

Here the discussion is perhaps unnecessarily limited to technical.

On the other hand, ng *is* a difficult media, and artists in general are not the most social group. What we need is patiently skip over some postings, and enjoy the rest

[Actually, I was just there, and things have calmed down considerably. Even some of the more prominent dung-hurlers seem to be behaving better lately (or maybe they're on vacation).]

[We can talk about anything sculpture-related here, but it's harder to come to any consensus on aesthetic issues. And if nobody says anything inflammatory, then one isn't impelled to jump in, either.]

[Sometimes a little flame war is just the thing to get the blood up to working pressure...]

A good technical NG (if you do metal) is sci.engr.joining.welding.

I participate in an egroup on lifecasting and one on sculpture. If you can't find, ask me how to go to them and I'll see exact URLs.
