International Art Contest: THE MILLENNIUM ART COLLECTION

LAST CALL FOR ENTRIES!

Precisely 2000 artists from all over the world will be participating in the Millennium Art Collection, an international art project which aims to focus on the beauty of the earth. Theme of the project is: 2000 Reasons to Love the Earth. The 2000 Foundation initiated this project for the Millennium-year in order to combine art with a consideration for the environment. The works or art will feature in a unique book of 640 pages, as well as on several exhibitions around the world. This publication will form an unparalleled collector's item for art lovers in celebration of the Millennium-year. The exhibition will provide visitors with a round the world artistic trip in just one visit.

The 2000 Foundation selected over 1900 professional artists out of 104 countries. Therefore some 100 artists are still welcome to complete the amount of 2000. The deadline is February 7, 2000. The task of the artist is to contribute a work of art, which contains one reason to love the earth. Respect for the planet as a provider of life and as a source of beauty is essential to its survival. Thus the slogan for the event is quite appropriate: 'One Earth, One Future and 2000 Reasons to love it!'

Artists who are interested in completing the 2000 can submit their application with a slide or a photograph of the work to the 2000 Foundation. A jury composed of museum directors and curators will select the winners in 16 categories with prizes up to $ 20.000. The Millennium Art Collection is a great opportunity for national artists to achieve international recognition. Entry forms can be found at www.millennium-art.nl under 'Arts Olympics' or make application to fax number ++31.20.600.2670.

[Unfortunately, the online application form didn't work. Press the 'submit' button on the 'information' screen and you get an error message. It's also a bit late to apply by mail from most countries, since the deadline is the 31st of January. Is there a way to apply by e-mail, appending the image as an attachment?

I was puzzled by the mention of the best 'figurative' artists: ' The best figurative artists will be invited to represent their country to ensure the top quality of the collection.' Is this a competition for figurative art (art representing the human body) only, or are other types of work eligible as well? If I may be permitted to editorialize here, it is the human capacity for self-absorbtion at the expense of other life-forms that is at the root of many of our environmental problems. If this is really a show about 'how to love the earth' and a 'complete survey of art expressions in the world.' it seems strange to limit it to images of people, however well-done.]
