Greetings Since I'm new to SF and not clear on where to get the biggest bang for my small buck, I hope anyone can tell me of where any available studio spaces may be.

Also, anyone out there got any news on local happenings in the SF sculpture world?

Thanks in advance! -A

be.

[Good luck! SF is in the middle of an acute space crunch, which some people blame on a flurry of dot-com start-ups which shun deluxe offices in favor of warehouse-type spaces in funky neighborhoods previously inhabited by artists and musicians. Only thing is, they can pay four or five times the previous rent for this 'cool' ambiance. Unsurprisingly, many creative types are finding themselves out on the street. A major music rehearsal space just closed a few weeks ago, sending dozens of bands out looking for new quarters. Artists are mostly migrating across the bay, to the decayed industrial areas of Oakland and Richmond. ]

Try Mare Island In Vallejo. That is where the next rebirth will happen. Forget SF. Oakland is even tight. The military has pulled out of Mare Island Naval Ship Yard and a transformation is beginning to take place. Artists are finding new places already. Wonderful Victorians are being snapped up fast and they have a ferry to SF. Get on it! It won't be long before it will be SRO.
