I want to make a rubber mould of a womans face & cast it in plaster I have made many moulds but never from a living subject,I presume that the moulding rubber that I use is used in the dental profession, does anyone out there have any tips on how I should prepare my model etc many thanks.

Take a look at http://www.bnglifecasting.com/diy/index.html It's fairly thorough on how to do big stuff. The only change I make from this to do faces is to mix up a bit thinner, and skip the intermediary plaster between the alginate and bandage. Do let me know if there's anything less than clear so I can add to a growing FAQ.

Hello Stuart, I see you are in England, Alec Tiranti does a face casting kit although it doesn't include the two MacDonalds straws you have to put up the model's nose or vaseline for the eybrows and hair line. From my catalogue the kit contains '500g of Normal Set Alginate, 1.5 kg Plaster of Paris, Roll of Plaster Bandage, 850 ml Beaker, Plastic Mixing Spatula and Instruction Sheet'. Price at January 2001 - £11-88.

Tiranti's web site: www.tiranti.co.uk London Shop, 27 Warren Street W1, 020 7636 8565 Head Office, 70 High Street, Theale, Reading, 0118 930 2775

Good luck
