How do I get black tuffy residue off of plaster? Been scrubbing and scrubbing but it just won't come off. Can I use alcohol or detergent or boric acid or something? I want to keep the whiteness of the plaster. Thanks a bunch.

I think that sandpaper, or steel wool, would be best. Wear gloves and dip steel wool in one of the following chemicals. These are guesses for cleaning: denatured alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, unleaded gasoline (EXTREME CAUTION: all of these are highly flammable). Toluol or xy (VERY TOXIC).

Or:

Switch to gray tufy.

Switch to a polyurethane.

Did you mix the black tufy thoroughly??

Is the residue from uncured polysulphide component??

Is this the first casting out of the mold?? If so, try a few more castings. Sometimes the first one or two castings yield less than desirable results.

Paint.

Make another mold. Use polyurethane.

[Who told you that stuff came off? One of my first adventures in moldmaking involved black tufy- what a disaster! It never really set up: (foolish youth that I was, I neglected to premix each component before adding one to the other.) Nothing got it off my model, which was fired ceramic, easier to clean than plaster. Maybe you could paint the whole thing black? Next time try (white) silicone rubber, and soap the plaster thoroughly before application.]

nuts. Well it wouldn't look too good in black. I got some of it off using a toothbrush and denatured alcohol but now it just looks dirty. No way am I gonna use steel wool on that thing cause it'd destroy the texture. Did I not use enough separator or something before pouring? Guess I'll hafta patinate it. Thanks for the help.
